Rev. Charles C. Noble

Born in the Salvation Army Headquarters in Washington, D.C., on January 1, 1898, Rev. Charles C. Noble grew up the son of Salvation Army officers and moved often as a child. He graduated from Williams College in 1921 and from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1924.

Noble served Methodist churches in the Bronx, Hartford, and Glens Falls before coming to First Methodist Church in Syracuse in 1941. He married Grace Myra Kepner after his first year of ministry. He was active in the community as a Rotarian and a director of the YMCA, and he had a special interest in mental health, serving with the Onondaga County Mental Hygiene Association and the American Red Cross clinic for returned veterans.

Named dean in September 1945, Noble believed the post-war world needed unity, which he hoped to find “through the will of God.” He pledged to continue the program established by Dean Powers and wanted to see more denominational workers at the chapel. He was installed on November 25, 1945 and retired in 1967.”
