As a sacred and inclusive space at the heart of Syracuse University, Hendricks Chapel offers meaningful support to the campus community in times of grief and remembrance. In keeping with our mission to serve as the spiritual heart of the University, the Chapel welcomes Celebration of Life services — including memorials, and remembrance gatherings – for Syracuse University faculty, staff, students, alumni, and affiliates.
Each service is designed with care, compassion, and collaboration to honor the unique life and legacy of the individual being remembered. These services are offered on an availability basis and may reflect religious, spiritual, interfaith, or secular traditions.
Scheduling and Requests
To initiate a request for a Memorial or Celebration of Life service at Hendricks Chapel, please complete the Online Request Form. A member of our team will follow up to discuss availability, details, and next steps.
Service Package and Costs
Base Rate:
$700.00 (Main Chapel)
$350.00 (Noble Room)
Includes the following:
- Use of Chapel Sanctuary for up to three (3) hours, including setup and breakdown
- Officiant support upon request (note: honorarium may apply)
- Basic printed program
- Audio-visual support, including microphones, lighting, and displays for projection.
- Printed portrait of the deceased for stage display
- Parking coordination for guest convenience
- On-site Chapel staff for logistical and hospitality support
Additional Services
Available upon request, additional fees apply:
- Live-streaming or hybrid event options
- Reception coordination on or near campus
- Expanded printing or multimedia needs

- Floral and décor recommendations

- Who can request a memorial or funeral service at Hendricks Chapel?
Services may be requested for current or former Syracuse University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and University affiliates. All requests are reviewed based on scheduling availability and alignment with Chapel policies.
- How do I start the planning process?
Please complete the Online Request Form. Our staff will follow up to discuss details and next steps.
- What is included in the base service fee?
The base fee includes Chapel space, sound/lighting, printed programs, a photo display, staff coordination, and more.
- Are religious services required?
No. Services may be religious, spiritual, interfaith, or secular. Hendricks Chapel supports all traditions and will work with you to design a service that reflects your values and the life of your loved one.
- Can I bring my own officiant or musicians?
Yes. Outside officiants and musicians are welcomed but information and credentials must be shared with the Chapel staff. Chapel staff can also connect you with available chaplains and campus musicians, based on your preferences (Honorariums may apply).
- Are funerals with caskets allowed?
Cremated remains in an urn may be present at the services. Caskets are not permitted during the academic school year.
- Is live-streaming available?
Yes. Livestream or hybrid event support is available for an additional fee. Arrangements must be made in advance.
- Can we host a reception after the service?
Yes. Receptions can be coordinated in nearby campus venues, subject to availability. Chapel staff can assist with planning and vendor referrals.
- Are printed materials provided?
A basic printed program and portrait is included in the service package. Custom formatting or extended content may be available for an added fee.
- Is guest parking provided?
Yes. Parking arrangements will be made in advance to ensure convenient access for attendees.
- What if the deceased had no University affiliation?
Services are prioritized for those with current or past connection to Syracuse University. If you’re unsure whether your request qualifies, please contact us.
